Notes From The Den 11-25-07

Welcome to this week's Notes From The Den.

I want to start off this week by mentioning something I just heard on one of the few radio stations I can actually stomach listening to. I will avoid mentioning the station by name because what I am about to say is not flattering to them.

The station in question brags about having a huge music library with over 6,000 songs. 6,000 songs? That's something to brag about? I have well over 3,000 albums (maybe over 4,000 at this point). Figure that most of them have at least 10 songs (some have over 20, and others are EPs with far fewer songs so let's figure they average each other out), that's over 30,000 songs I have to choose from in my library.

I also just looked up the stats on what a 40GB Ipod will hold, and the specs on it says over 10,000 songs. So a palm sized box holds more songs than the entirety of this station's library. That's pretty sad.

I think that proves once again, that Lazlo's Den is more diverse than most (if not all) stations.

Moving on.

Monday November 26th on Lazlo's Den, don't miss an interview with Stafford Davis, the man behind I/O\I (www.eyeoeye.com). The self-titled experimental art-pop rock album that I/O\I put out is quite unique, as will this conversation with the man behind it.

Also coming soon on Lazlo's Den is an in-studio appearance by Zigman Bird (www.zigmanbird.com), one of the bands playing BlowUpRadio.com's 7th Anniversary Bash on December 7th (more info at www.BlowUpRadio.com). Keep an eye on www.LazlosDen.com for an air date.

Last week on the Den brought some new music from The Crayons (www.myspace.com/thecrayonpeople), an album which you can read a review of at www.LazlosDen.com.

Also a new live Queensryche (www.queensryche.com) cover of U2's "bullet the blue sky" that was insane (in a good way), that comes from their new cover CD (take cover). Expect a review of it soon.

Other new songs on the Den last week:

NJ's own Turn Four (www.mysapce.com/turn4rocks), which features former Atom Beat front man Jim Cook definitely taking a turn from his former band into a new direction.

James Dalton (aka Jpat) (www.jamesdalton.info) from his CD, "butterflies & passerbys", which you can read at www.LazlosDen.com.

The Go (www.thegodetroit.com), the best 60's Brit-pop band to come from 2007 Detroit. Expect a full review at www.LazlosDen.com soon.

Rat Wakes Red (www.myspace.com/ratwakesred)

Devil Doll (www.devil-doll.com)

As well as some classics from:

John Lee Hooker. I can never play too much of his music. For me, he is the blues.

Planet Janet. A NJ band that may never have hit it big, but was always really good.

Last Wednesday we celebrated "No Music Day" (www.nomusicday.com), which led to some "interesting" monologues from Henry Rollins, Tom House, Noam Chomsky, and the first "These are the things that piss me off!", by myself. If you missed this show, it was certainly one of a kind.

On Thanksgiving, I reminded everyone of the true unsavory beginnings of Thanksgiving (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pequot_War), with many thanks to my friend Elizabeth who supplied the link. We also remembered Michael Hutchence (the former frontman of Inxs) on the 10th anniversary of his death...Fuck INXS for keeping the band alive with some new lead singer, have the decency to change your name. You've become a shitty INXS cover band, much like Queen with Paul Rodgers, and The Cars with Todd Rundgren.

Lastly, on Thanksgiving I played the one holiday song I plan to play (possibly everyday until Christmas), "fuck christmas, fuck you", by the Pork Guys, a band that Moby plays drums in. Call me a Grinch if you must, but I like to celebrate the non-religious holiday, ACHOO (Another Commercialized Holiday Of Overspending). Every year I hope it catches on with the mainstream :)

Peace,
Lazlo
