Hey Everyone,
The next BlowUpRadio.com Free Concert @ Buddie’s Tavern: Saturday June 23rd – Zigman Bird, John Rango & Friends, Mike Kovacs Buddie's Tavern is located at 277 Johnsons Lane, Parlin (Sayreville), NJ ~~~ Lazlo’s Corner Sorry for the short reviews this week. I wanted to do some write ups but between work, and life, there just aren’t always enough hours in the day some weeks to do a lot of writing. But trust me, if I am bothering to write at all about something, it is worth checking out. I have been following RACHAEL SAGE’s career for nearly a decade now. Her voice is absolutely amazing, powerful and emotional. Her latest album, “HAUNTED BY YOU”, is another shinning example of how piano based adult alternative music doesn’t have to suck. Ney, this album is glorious. Rachael’s CD release show is May 19th at Joe’s Pub in NYC. http://rachaelsage.com So anyone who knows me, listens to my show regularly, or reads this column, probably already knows I am an atheist, and have been since I was very young. I wouldn’t say I am anti-religion, in so much as I don’t like the way religion is co-opted by some people to be about hatred instead of love. I point this out, because CHRISTIAN FLOYD, turned his back on heavy metal (he had been in several metal bands throughout most of the 90’s) when he found religion, apparently thinking that that heavy metal was the “devil’s music”. I disagree with that, and don’t see why heavy metal and religion cannot go side by side (Stryper comes to mind, but that is probably a case against them working side by side). Anyway, while I may not agree with Christian’s reason for switching to acoustic music, his voice works amazingly well with acoustic guitar accompaniment, and outside of one really religious sounding song that I personally didn‘t care for, “CONVERSATIONS IN AN EMPTY ROOM”, is a good album. You can hear clips of his songs on his website. http://www.christianfloyd.com Who likes catchy, up-tempo, middle of the road rock, drenched in sweet harmonies? I do! I do! So does LATVIAN RADIO. Their new album, “KILL THE STATIC”, is so much fun! Stream their album at their website and join the Latvian party. http://www.latvianradio.net New Jersey’s own BOB BURGER is back with his latest, and in my opinion, greatest album, “THE DAY AFTER”. Over the years he has had the opportunity to play with a lot of rock & roll greats, and you can hear why in his adult contemporary/adult alternative based rock. http://www.bobburger.com Last year when the MISERY JACKALS were touring and played Asbury Lanes, they sent me an enjoyable ep. Now they are back with a full length album, that deftly mixes punk, honky-tonk, rockabilly, and rock & roll, into one hell of an album. “NO PLACE FOR CHILDREN”, may be aptly titled, with song titled such as, “the mortuary bop”, “sick rick”, and, “liquor & whores”, but for adults who want to rock out and have some fun, this album is your kinda place! http://www.themiseryjackals.com I am going to apologize for the cheesiness of this next review in advance (all apologies to P-Funk for bastardizing their classic) Who wants the funk? we want the funk Give up the funk? no, we need the funk PAPA GROWS FUNK Papa Grows Funk is some seriously good Louisiana funk, and if that is not enough of a reason to get this album, how about this, “NEEDLE IN THE GROOVE”, was produced by the legendary Allen Toussaint! http://www.papagrowsfunk.com And I leave you with the video for a wonderful song from AVALANCHE CITY, “LOVE LOVE LOVE”. https://blowupradio.tripod.com/videos/avalanche.html ~~~ This week on Lazlo's Den Presents New Music we have new music from: ARTIST - ALBUM ------------------------- John Pizzarelli - double exposure Rachael Sage - haunted by you Papa Grows Funk - needle in the groove Cypress Hill x Rusko - Cypress x Rusko ep Christian Floyd - conversations in an empty room Bob Burger - the day after Plushgun - me.me.
