PARAMOUNT SESSIONS BRINGS FREE MUSIC TO ASBURY PARK SEPTEMBER 5TH

The Asbury Park Boardwalk is excited to announce it will celebrate Labor Day 2010 with the kickoff of the Paramount Sessions. In what promises to be a historic event, the free-to-the-public weekend will feature beach-friendly live music from Asbury Park musicians on the boardwalk throughout the day, and will culminate in a very special performance at the Paramount Theatre, where three specially selected and nationally recognized acts from the heart of Asbury will shine in a free concert event. The weekend offers both musicians and the community at large the opportunity to participate in an unprecedented and one-of-a-kind experience.

The fun starts on the boardwalk before the free indoor concert, and lasts through the day. “The Paramount Sessions” will celebrate Labor Day in classic Asbury Park style, with local musicians performing at the city’s First Avenue Green Space starting at 11:00 a.m. The Breeze 107.1, a New Jersey-based radio station, will broadcast live throughout the evening performances. Further galvanizing the strong community feeling, bands will be collecting non-perishable food donations throughout the weekend at greenspace sites. This charity drive comes to Asbury Park under the efforts of Move for Hunger, a nonprofit organization committed to helping end hunger in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Asbury musicians are known for their commitment to the community, and this is one more way they are able to use music to raise awareness and generate action for a worthy cause.

On Sunday September 5th at 7 pm, more history will be made at the highlight event of the weekend when the lucky crowd fills the aisles of The Paramount Theatre for the homegrown concert event of the summer. Sure to sustain the pride New Jersey, and especially Asbury Park, the concert displays the vibrant and commanding local music scene performances by New Jersey favorites Rick Barry, Jerzy Jung and Outside the Box. Local music star Glen Burtnik will take on hosting duties for the evening, charming the audience with his affectionate introductions of these established local acts before each set.

Glen isn’t the star of this particular show, but he is a well-known local favorite. Admired for his rock-opera compositions, he’s also had a role in “Beatlemania” as Paul McCartney; to top off that list of accomplishments, he’s also a former band member of famed music group Styx. The first act, known for winning the John Lennon Songwriter Award multiple times, Rick Barry, renowned for his neo-folk sounds and honest lyrics, will commence the Paramount Theater concert event. Jerzy Jung, a passionate and powerful artist with indie-pop flair, will join Barry for the Labor Day celebration. The night’s third performer, Outside the Box, will add an element of rock, blues and modern flare to the September-5 show.

This is the first year Asbury Park will be Move for Hunger’s central hub for its state-wide food drive. Concert-goers interested in helping raise funds for Move for Hunger will be able to donate to the non-profit organization at each concert series. Food donations for the organization will be accepted throughout Labor Day weekend at the Asbury Park Boardwalk’s 4th Avenue Green Space.
