The Winter Sounds - "porcelain empire"
Sometimes when you hear an album for the first time you enjoy it so much that you want to immediately listen to it again. Such is the case with "porcelain empire", the new CD from The Winter Sounds. This atmospheric indie-pop band from Athens, GA, creates songs that have layers of sound weaving you through various emotional landscapes. The vocals a poetic harmony wafting above their melodic synthy pop. They sometimes have an 80's feel, like the Dream Academy among others, but that doesn't mean they are mining that 80's sound. No, rather they are creating something that sounds fresh and new, and is quickly becoming one of my favorite albums of this year.
