Readymade Breakup - “alive on the vine”

New Jersey’s own Readymade Breakup returns with 10 new pop-rock song on their second album, “alive on the vine”.

I know, I know, the “pop-rock” term gets brandied around a lot, and there are plenty of mediocre “pop-rock” bands out there that try to sound like everything else already out there, but Readymade Breakup defies that much the way Fountains Of Wayne did on their “welcome interstate managers” album.

Whether it’s the instantly catchy opening track, “one by one”, the mellow harmonious beauty of “I don’t mind”, or the dirty garage-blues rock riff of, “honey, you may be right” (which sounds like it would be right at home with The Beatles’s , “she came in through the bathroom window”, or early Black Crowes), this album smoothly shifts through the vastness of the vague term “pop-rock”.

To my ears, the single of this album has to be, “stretch your head”, which adds trumpet to the bands sound (courtesy of a guest appearance by Laura Christansen). The horn supplements the catchy rhythms of the song, and the sing-along chorus sounds anthemic.

Anthemic is actually a perfect description of many of the songs on this album. Readymade Breakup write complex anthems for people who like their pop-rock to include multiple layers and soundscapes.
