Nerve Tonic - "pig iron EP"

The band formerly known as Funch, returns with a new name and a modified sound, and while changing their name to Nerve Tonic may not make a big difference, their change in sound does...for the better.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Funch's brand of garage punk rock meets heavy metal, but Nerve Tonic takes a new approach to garage punk rock by infusing it with early rockabilly rock for a more melodic sound, without losing any of their energy and intensity.

One of my favorite songs so far for 2008 is "the fury and the sun", which starts out like a traditional western country song, before super-charging into a punkabilly rocker that I picture playing over the credits to a modern western film. It's just a brilliant song.

The "pig iron EP" is catchy, upbeat, rock & roll at it's finest. It's what I picture would have happened if Sam Phillips had brought the Sun Studios sound to CBGB back in the late 70's. An excellent beginning for Nerve Tonic.
