Fountains Of Wayne - "traffic & weather"

Many critics undoubtedly will take Fountains of Wayne's new CD, "traffic & weather" and immediately compare it to their mainstream breakthrough album, "interstate traffic managers", and spend time debating whether or not there is another "Stacy's mom" type hit on this album. I won't be one of those critics. I, as well as many others, have been a fan of FOW's pop-rock sensibilities since their self-titled debut, and don't really care if they ever have another top 40 hit, as long as they continue to make good music.

"Traffic & weather" is a good album, a very good album actually. Long time fans will be happy to know that Adam Schlesinger and Chris Collingwood, who one day hopefully will be thought of with the same reverence as Lennon and McCartney, are still writing some of the best ear candy I have had the pleasure of listening to, and still full of fun and quirky lyrics. Stand out tracks on this CD includes, "this better be good", which has a great Brian Wilson-esque quality to it, and "fire in the canyon", an upbeat country stomp song (with guest backing vocals by Mike Viola of Candy Butchers fame).
