Fixer - "before the sun"

Who says the fun of rock & roll excesses died with the 80's? Not Fixer, that's for sure, and I think that's a good thing. Not ashamed to just do fun hard rock which catchy choruses and guitar riffs, "before the sun", is not alternative rock, or punk rock, but you can hear some influences of those types of bands, mixed with obvious influences of bands like Guns N Roses, Motley Crue, and 80's Def Leppard. These are bands I listened to a lot when I was younger, but very rarely do I these days, however listening to "before the sun", I found myself wanting to rock out and wishing I still had my long hair to flail around while I headbanged along. Like most of the bands I referenced above, Fixer also has some relentlessly catchy ballads, most notably, "down without it", which I think could explode on mainstream radio. The oddity on this album is track 9, "tuxedo", a nine plus minute track, that really reminded me a lot of early Def Leppard (think "bringin' on the heartbreak"), and actually worked well despite it's length. To encapsulate, Fixer is an arena rock band, that just hasn't hit the level of being able to play an arena....yet.
