Newsletter 10-18-11

Hey Everyone,

Last chance to take advantage of this contest. We pick the winners Wednesday @ 6pm ET.

There are 2 amazing shows happening this weekend at The Brighton Bar, and BlowUpRadio.com wants to hook you up with passes to both shows.

Friday 10/21 @ Brighton Bar, late 70's British anarchist band ZOUNDS plays on an amazing bill that also features Fatal Rage, T.V. Tramps, and Decrepit Youth.

Saturday 10/22 @ Brighton Bar, legendary frontman of The Stranglers, HUGH CORNWELL will perform Stranglers hits and solo material backed by Clem Burke of Blondie. Also on the bill are The F-Bombers, and local NJ legends JON CASPI & THE FIRST GUN.

We're going to make this real easy.

We have 4 pairs of tickets for each show.

All you have to do to enter is reply to this e-mail and change the subject to be "Zounds Conest", "Cornwell Contest", or if you want to enter both "Zounds & Cornwell Contests".

We will pick the winners on Wednesday 10/19 @ 6pm (and notify the winners shortly thereafter).

You must be 18 to enter the Brighton Bar (21 to drink)

Please only one entry per person.

For more information on the Brighton Bar go to www.BrightonBar.com

Good luck!

Jon Caspi (who you just read above is a local NJ legend), wrote a short but fascinating piece that goes into recording and releasing an album. Please take a moment to read this short paragraph below:

“For those who are curious about the process of releasing songs and albums: It's a somewhat tedious but also exciting multiple stage process. A song is written, arranged, rehearsed and rehearsed many more times, recorded over many many hours, the recording is then mixed , then it goes to what's called "mastering" which gives it that radio friendly sheen, then artwork has to be conceived, developed, completed, revised, etc, then it goes to manufacturing and so on. It takes a lot of time and focused effort to put out musical releases. When you listen to a 2 minute song by almost any artist, it typically took hundreds of hours to put together. So, as a personal plea, please take only one minute to support musical artists by just listening (even if only to short clips) to what it took them often months to do. It's a nice thing to do and appreciated more than you know.”

It’s important to remember all the hard work that goes into making an album, and all the unsung heroes behind the scenes that do the mixing, mastering, producing, etc. It is a long, generally collaborative, and sometimes frustrating process, that any musician must go through to make an album. Thanks Jon for the reminder!

btw – Jon Caspi & The First Gun’s new album will be out on November 19th (Jon is also doing a special acoustic set on Nov. 12th as part of Banding Together, where he likely will play some of those new songs).
