Richie Havens Cancels November 3rd Concert in Woodbridge, NJ, citing need for rest after surgery

Earlier this week I received the below e-mail from the organizers of Richie Haven's November 3rd show:

Dear Music on Main Street friends,

We have some very sad news…

Richie Havens has had to cancel his Nov. 3 concert here in Woodbridge. And several dates beyond.

According to his agent, Mr. Havens has been increasingly ill for quite a few months, and it has now been determined that he can not perform at full capacity – for the foreseeable future.

That’s all the details we have. Prayers for his speedy recovery would be a good idea.

Seeking further information on his illness I received clarfication in this statement from Richie Haven's publicist:

Richie Havens underwent successful routine surgery this summer. Post-surgery, with full medical clearance and his doctor's blessing, and in an effort to honor contractual obligations, Richie returned to his rigorous touring schedule 5 weeks later; but after 45 years of live concerts, the travel and performances feel demanding and exhausting. Richie is renowned for giving his all at every show and requires nothing less of himself. Though this has been a very difficult decision for him, Richie feels compelled to cancel his upcoming appearances in order to rest and recharge. He looks forward to rescheduling his fall tour dates as soon as possible. In the meantime, please contact your point of purchase for ticket refunds.

The November 3rd Music on Main Street show will now feature Willie Nile and Richard Barone.
